Parikia, the capital of the island and originally left port from which the marble, is a perfect synthesis of ancient, medieval and modern. A Naoussa cafes and tavernas of the Venetian port is still frequented by fishermen; the ruins, partly submerged, the castle. Do not miss the road paved and Ekatontapyliani (the church door by one hundred), both of the Byzantine era. In fact the doors are ninety-nine and legend has it that when the hundredth Constantinople returns is found to be Greek. On a rock in the vicinity of the church is the visible imprint of the foot of Agia Theoktisti, the young woman escaped the pirates who lived on the island hidden in the woods for thirty years.
In the adjacent island of Antiparos, so close to Paros that was once connected by a bridge (and currently a five-minute ferry), is the famous cave of stalactites and stalagmites often loved to go Lord Byron.
